JdP - Robin Michael (cello) and Daniel Tong (piano)
Venue, Timing and Cost
Broadcaster and writer Richard Wigmore, pianist Daniel Tong and cellist Robin Michael present a two-day study event entitled ‘Beethoven Unravelled’. After exploring the complete Beethoven cello sonatas during the day, with musical demonstrations, they will finish with a concert performance each evening. These five sonatas reflect the three major creative periods of Beethoven’s life: the flamboyant Op.5 sonatas were written during his heyday as a young composer-virtuoso in Vienna; the lyrical Op.69 dates from the height of his 'second period', as he was coming to term with his deafness; and the two Op.102 sonatas, concise, often elliptical, herald his glorious final period.
