Mavina received a 2:1 BA (Hons) Textiles from the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, Farnham, in the 1990's. Following her degree she practised textile design, making the move to full time printmaking a few years ago.

She has successfully organised and run printmaking and handmade book and journal workshops for Kennet Friends, a scheme based in Ludgershall, and for Mindfully Employed, a work scheme based in Marlborough, both organisations help people with mental health issues. She has also worked with children in years 3 & 4 (in Primary school) running printmaking and simple bookbinding workshops. Mavina also tutors an annual weekend residential course in woodcut at Dillington House, Somerset and runs printmaking and bookbinding workshops from her studio in Wiltshire.

Her work is held in collections at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, the University of the Creative Arts, UK and Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan.

A maker of prints and artists' books, she continues to develop ideas from drawings made during walking trips. She works predominantly with wood and linocut, and uses photosensitive plate to employ digital concepts within letterpress printmaking.
