Helen D Evans

Membership Type:
Individual

Helen makes one-off sculptural vessels, by working on ideas that originate from studies of seed pods and has previously based her work on a variety of natural forms. Such as the seeds of the Lotus flower, which create classical shapes similar to amphorae and other more native and familiar plants such as Dandelions and Poppies.

Helen uses a variety of making techniques such as coiling, slabs, press moulds, slumping and throwing.

I have been involved in the world of art, in one form or another, for nearly 30 years. In the past I have been an arts administrator, curator, teacher and artist, and, since moving to the UK in 1999, a full time sculptor. I maintain a sculpture practice in a studio located in the village of Farthinghoe, between Banbury and Brackley. My abstract figurative work usually begins in either clay or plaster, and is then cast into editions. Installation and themed exhibitions are also pursuits.

Singing and instrumental workshops in community settings. For most of human history, singing and group music-making has been a normal and enriching part of everyday life, rather than a specialised activity for an elite few. I enjoy re-connecting people to the pleasure of singing and making music in a group. I have over 15 years' experience of running workshops and courses in a range of contexts, including services for people with mental health needs, older people, refugees and asylum-seekers, as well as workplaces, adult education and drop-in groups open to anyone.
