Martin Damen - Maker of Hand Carved Spoons & Bowls

Membership Type:
Individual

I am a traditional green woodworker and live in Great Bourton, north of Banbury, and specialise in hand-carving spoons and bowls.

To me it is essential that the items I produce are functional. My aim is to produce something that is useful and a pleasure to look at and handle everyday. In doing so, I endeavour to utilise the natural characteristics and features of the wood.

There are two characteristics that apply to all my work. Firstly, I follow traditional practice and use wood that has been locally sourced, usually from within five miles of the workshop.

David A Ross

Membership Type:
Individual

Although involved in photography for over 40 years David’s background into art photography came from teaching photography at University. He has always been fascinated by movement within the photographic image whilst creating something of beauty at the same time. Water continues to be a strong theme in his work.

David is a passionate photographer who captures his passion through the lens of the camera. In recent years David has extended the subject area with abstract images involving both the human form and inanimate objects.

Will Glanfield

Membership Type:
Individual

I am a sculptor/maker working mainly with wood to commission in the area of public art, creating both functional and non functional pieces. Using the highly tactile and organic material of timber, my approach is to create artworks which are inviting, engaging and inclusive. There are references to natural forms and processes and the works hold layers of meaning. Ideas around transformation, regeneration and the cycles of nature are explored. Through the use of more abstract forms, viewers are invited to make their own associations and interpretations of my work.

My work involves the simplification of form and the use of surface pattern.

I make colourful plaster sculptures and collages. Birds ,trees and flowers are current themes. I build my sculptures and collages in layers; surface decoration being an important final step. My degree in ceramics has informed and influenced my use of decoration, I scratch patterns into the surface and use printing techniques to add detail. I am inspired by children's use of imagery to represent the natural world.

I have over 15 years experience working with community groups and children in schools.
